‘Red flags aplenty’: Irish woman speaks up about Glasgow's failed Willy Wonka Experience

Jenny Fogarty was one of the few actors hired to perform as Oompa Loompa

The Dublin actress who went viral after dressing up as an Oompa Loompa has spoken up about her experience.

Jenny Fogarty was originally looking for production design jobs when she found a job posting for the Willy Wonka Experience in Glasgow - where “chocolate dreams become reality”.

What she thought would involve dressing up as a character and handing out sweets, quickly turned into a bit of a mess.

“I got hired on the Thursday and then on the Friday I was invited to come in for a costume fitting and when I arrived there was no costumes. I just assumed like there'd be a lot more done,” she started.

As she met the other actors, the group were handed a 15-page AI generated script that they had to learn for the next day.

"It's red flags aplenty. The script's completely like AI generated. We said ‘I don't know if we're gonna be able to learn all this’. And we were just told to just improvise as much as you can. It was The most winging it of projects, like, I think we all just thought, ‘Look, we'll just try our best, get on with the day, see what happens, and then never speak of this again’.”

The Scottish event quickly went viral on social media and made the headlines after furious families spent hundreds of pounds on the Willy’s Chocolate Experience.

“There was hundreds of people going through, expecting a show. We did try to do the show, and then we got told to scrap it, because it was taking too long. And I think that's when it completely just fell off,” Jenny told Joe.ie. “The sweets were given to hand out. It was just a little bag of pick and mix. There's people paying 35 a ticket. It was just ridiculous.”
