Dog who escaped murder undergoes serious head operation to repair axe wound

A dog who escaped certain murder has made it through a serious head operation to repair what is believed to be an axe wound.

According to My Lovely Horse Rescue (MLHR), the dog - named Maeve - went through the surgery yesterday (January 9) and "is recovering".

An MLHR spokesperson recounted Maeve's story on their official Facebook page, stating: "For anyone that doesn’t know the sad cruel story of Maeve, someone tried to murder her with an axe to the head.

"A miracle happened and she got away, staggered into a lovely person's garden and we rushed her to Southview Veterinary Hospital."

They continued: "Maeve has been at Southview for weeks now, she’s an unbelievable trooper, the sweetest dog, we could all learn from Maeve and her bravery.

"Everyone is rooting for her."

In a video of Maeve posted on X (formerly Twitter) last week (January 5), MLHR confirmed Maeve's skull could be seen through the head wound when she first arrived.

A video was also posted by MLHR in mid-December 2023 after she was rescued:

Although Maeve is currently recovering, MLHR is encouraging anyone who wishes to donate towards her long term veterinary care can do so here.
