Mayo-set drama The Crucified Silence heads to Galway Fringe Festival after acclaimed Castlebar performance

Mick Donnellan’s one-man play, set in Ballinrobe, will run for three nights in Galway this July
A powerful play set in Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo is heading to the Galway Fringe Festival following a successful debut on the festival circuit and a well-received performance at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar earlier this year.
Written and performed by Mick Donnellan, The Crucified Silence will be staged at Screene’s on Eyre Square on July 23, 24 and 25, with performances running from 8pm to 10pm.
The one-man production premiered at the Athlone Theatre Festival before touring to the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, on May 29, where it received a strong response from audiences.
Set in Ballinrobe, the play follows Joe, a local Garda who finds his life spiralling after a heated confrontation with his superintendent.
Blending dark comedy with emotional drama, The Crucified Silence explores themes including loneliness, alcoholism, grief, parenthood and personal loss, offering an intimate portrait of a man attempting to come to terms with his past.
Performed in a stripped-back style, the production places audiences at the heart of Joe’s inner world, examining the gap between public perception and private reality.
Tickets are priced at €20 and are available through Eventbrite or at the door.
