Today, (Friday, September 26), ‘Make Way Day 2025’ returned to Mayo. Make Way Day is a campaign that brings disabled people and the wider community together to consider the needs of disabled people in the public spaces we all share.
Make Way Day is led by the Disability Federation of Ireland as a unique collaboration across Ireland and the Voluntary and Local Government sectors.
The day highlighted the difficulties and dangers that wheelie bins, vehicles, and other obstacles left on the footpaths can create for disabled people.
Mayo County Council is working with local organisations to promote awareness, including Employability Mayo and Rehabcare. An Garda Siochána and Mayo County Council’s traffic wardens are set to take part in the campaign by means of enforcing a zero tolerance approach to motorists who park on footpaths or use designated parking bays without a permit.
