Achill 1-14
Eastern Gaels 2-11
Achill and Eastern Gaels opened their first round encounter of the Junior Championship with a share of the spoils in a closely fought encounter in Davitt Park.
In a game which could have gone either way, Achill had Brian Lavelle to thank when he converted a two-pointer free in the 58th minute to level the game.
Indeed they may have secured victory but two long range efforts from substitute Fionnbarr Gallagher both tailed wide.
Eastern Gaels must have thought they had done enough to edge the contest when they found the back of the Achill net seven minutes from time.
A point from full forward Michael McGarry then put the east Mayo men two ahead with time running out.
However they lost their exposure when they breached the 'three-up' rule. Lavelle opted to go for the two pointer and made no mistake to level the score.
