Freya and Holly Renton represented Sacred Heart School Westport at the All-Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships in Tullamore
ONCE again Westport's Freya Renton sparkled on the national stage when racing away from the field in the Junior Girls 1500m race at the All-Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships in Tullamore over the weekend.
The talented runner left competitors in her wake to finish in 4.27:95, just outside the championship record. This time would have seen her achieve the U18 European standard. Her sister, Holly finished in a very respectable fourth place.
At the end of the championships where more than 1000 athletes from 300 schools competed, Freya was presented with the the Micheal Hunt Memorial Cup as she was the closest athlete across all the 1500m races to breaking a championship record.
Westport was very well represented at the two-day event. Padraig Corduff ran the Senior Boys 5000m in an extremely competitive field. Padraig ran a very impressive personal best of 15.26.
Emma Edmundson competed excellently in both the javelin and shot putt while Paul Edmundson turned in a fine performance in the discus. Another extremely noteworthy display was the run of Ruairi Hollywood in the 1500m Senior Boys race where he raced to an astonishing personal best of 4.16.
