CAPTAIN OF IRELAND Ailish Quinn with her parents Oisin and Noreen following Connacht's recent win over Leinster in the U-18 Inter-Provincial final
THERE is great delight in Mayo rugby circles today after Ballina RFC's Ailish Quinn was named captain of Ireland for the U-18 Six Nations Championship in Wales.
The dynamic forward has been at the forefront of her club's success in recent years and also helped Connacht to the Inter-Provincial title this season alongside her club colleagues Emily Foley and Grainne Moran.
All three are in the Irish squad to take on both England and Italy today in Wales and the trio were also on the Irish squad during last season's Six Nations.
The news of Ailish's selection as Irish captain has been greeted with great delight in Ballina RFC with club president, Mr Adrian Bourke, leading the wave of congratulations. "This is a wonderful honour for Ailish, her parents Oisin and Noreen, her family, her club and all the coaches who helped her along the way. To have one of our own captaining Ireland in the Six Nations is an amazing achievement and I would also like to congratulate Emily and Grainne too. This is a very special time for the club and everyone who has worked so hard to establish Girls rugby in Ballina."
Ireland will play both England Italy today in Colwyn Bay in Wales with both Quinn and Moran starting against England and Foley in the starting 15 against Italy.
