LACKEN'S Caelan Doris was Ireland's on-field captain as the men in green defeated Scotland 17-13 in Dublin to win the Six Nations Championship in a packed Aviva Stadium this evening. He took over as skipper when Peter O'Mahony was substituted in the final quarter.
The former Ballina RFC number-eight was central to a hard-working Irish display against a dogged, determined and defensive Scottish squad. He carried well and made good decisions from the base of the scrum during a match which was tight and tense all through.
The men in green were 7-6 clear at half time and moved out to 17-6 late in the second half before a last-gasp Scottish try and conversion closed the gap significantly at the finish.
However, there was no denying Ireland and when the final whistle sounded they were deserving winners of the game and the championship.
