There is great excitement in Ballina rugby circles after three of the club's players were named in the Irish U18 squad for the upcoming Six Nations Festival in Colwyn Bay, Wales.
Emily Foley, Ailish Quinn and Grainne Moran have been named in the squad by head-coach, Matt Gill, and the announcement comes on the back of all three starring for Connacht in the Inter Provincial series, which ended with the western girls winning the title.

The Six Nations festival takes place from March 29 to April 6 and the squad will assemble for three weekend training camps at the IRFU’s High Performance Centre on the Sport Ireland Campus in Dublin prior to the tournament.
Chairman of Ballina RFC, Alan Rowe, said it was a wonderful achievement and all in the club were celebrating the news.

"This is a huge honour for Emily, Ailish and Grainne, their families, their coaches and the club. The female section of our club is growing at a massive rate and the success of these three wonderful footballers will only increase that. We're going through a very special time in Ballina RFC at the moment with Caelan (Doris) captaining the team against Italy, Clara Barrett making her senior international debut earlier in the season, Harry (West) and Fiachna (Barrett) winning the U20 Grand Slam and getting all the way to the World Cup final, and now the three girls being picked for Ireland again.

"It's testament to the girls' talent and hard work, their families, their coaches and everyone involved along the way. We wish them every success and look forward to seeing them in action on the international stage."

The Ballina trio were also part of the Irish squad that took part in last year's festival at Wellington College in England
