A number of candidates are set to be interviewed for the position of Mayo senior camogie team manager.

Rosemary Smith, a member of the Mayo Camogie executive, told The Mayo News that a four-person committee are set to interview candidates this evening (Wednesday).

Mayo Camogie had previously warned that it was facing a ‘dire situation’ of withdrawing from both their league and championship if a senior manager was not appointed.

Following a public appeal, the position now appears set to be filled ahead of Mayo’s upcoming Division 4 league campaign.

Candidates both from within Mayo and outside the county are set to be interviewed.

“Nothing is certain…so I can’t say for definite, but I’d be hugely optimistic that we will get someone,” Rosemarie Smith told The Mayo News.

Mayo’s opening league fixture against Tyrone takes place on February 24. They will compete in the All-Ireland Premier Junior Championship later on this year.

The county re-entered an adult intercounty camogie team in 2021 after not fielding for several years.

Under Aghamore man Jimmy Lyons, Mayo won the Nancy Murray Cup in 2022 and were runners-up in last year’s competition.

Mayo won the Division 4 league title in 2022, also claiming All-Ireland Under-16 ‘D’ and All-Ireland Minor ‘C’ glory in that year.
