CLAREMORRIS could soon add another crown to their bulging underage trophy cabinet after seeing off an excellent Moy Davitts team on their home sod.

Played in front of a sizeable, enthused crowd in Baltic conditions, Claremorris did not make sure of this one until the last eight minutes, when they outscored the Moysiders seven points to nil.

In truth, the four-point winning margin did not truly reflect a game that ebbed and flowed from one side to the other.

The teams were deadlocked three times in the second half before a star-studded Claremorris side began to pull away.

Their scorching closing salvo was the polar of opposite to the start of the game, which saw them ship 1-2 – including an own goal from full-back Darragh Joyce.

However, Claremorris soon roared back and that the game level by the 19th minute through good work from the likes of Niall Hurley, Darragh Beirne and Johnny Cummins.

Both sides squandered an inordinate amount of goal chances, but it was Claremorris that went in 0-8 to 1-4 leaders at half-time.

Both teams’ offensive slowed in the near freezing temperatures before the South Mayo men hit the afterburners in the closing stages to reach the Under-21 ‘A’ final, where a mouth-watering clash with Castlebar Mitchels is in store.

There will be a full report carried in Tuesday’s print edition of The Mayo News.
