Author Jim Carney with his new book.
THE Mayo launch of a new book celebrating a golden age in GAA history will take place tomorrow evening (Thursday) in Castle Books in Castlebar.
Jim Carney’s book on GAA greats Seán Purcell and Frank Stockwell has been a phenomenal success since its release in Galway earlier this month.
The two Gaelic football legends from Tuam were born within ten days of each other in December 1928 and were heroes of Galway’s thrilling victory over Cork in the 1956 All-Ireland SFC final, and of the ten county senior championship titles won by Tuam Stars between 1947 and 1962.
The book also features Seán Purcell’s victories in Hogan Cup and Sigerson Cup finals, with many of his teammates from Mayo, including Mick Flanagan, Peter Solan, John Nallen and Mick Loftus. It highlights the respectful rivalry between Mayo and Galway going back several generations. The launch is sure to be a nostalgia filled trip down memory lane.
Jim Carney is a renowned journalist and broadcaster, who was the first ever presenter of The Sunday Game.
The book is already on its second print run, with the first edition selling out within two weeks.
All are welcome to this launch at Castle Books, Main Street, Castlebar on Thursday, July 6 at 6.30pm.
