Inishturk community can once again use tap water as normal following successful testing

Residents and businesses on Inishturk can once again use their tap water as normal after Uisce Éireann lifted a Boil Water Notice following satisfactory water quality tests.

The notice, issued on August 14 following mechanical issues at the island’s water treatment plant, was lifted today, Monday, October 19, after remedial works were completed and a series of tests confirmed the water was safe to drink.

Uisce Éireann confirmed, following consultation with the Health Service Executive (HSE), that the water is now safe to drink, prepare food with and use as normal.

Colette Scahill, Uisce Éireann’s Water Network Operations Manager for Mayo, thanked the island community for its patience and cooperation during the disruption.

“We are pleased to restore normal service and would like to thank the community of Inishturk for the support they have shown throughout this process,” she said.

Ms Scahill also thanked elected representatives and the media for helping to share public health information while the notice was in place.

Further information is available on the official Uisce Éireann website. Customers with queries can contact the Uisce Éireann Customer Contact Centre on freephone 1800 278 278, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
