Mayo female choir group to present summer concert in aid of charity

Castlebar-based female voice choir BellaCapella will bring music, song and community spirit together this weekend when they present their summer concert, A Summer Serenade, in Christchurch, Castlebar, on Saturday, June 6, at 8pm.

The concert will feature a light and uplifting programme of song, prose and instrumental performances, promising what organisers describe as a magical evening of entertainment for audiences.

BellaCapella director Sarah Lawrence has announced a number of special guests for the event, including Katie Kilkenny and her Harp Ensemble, who will join the choir on the night.

As well as showcasing local musical talent, the concert will support an important community cause. Proceeds from a fundraising raffle held during the evening will benefit Castlebar Social Services Meals on Wheels.

Castlebar Social Services has been serving and caring for older and vulnerable members of the community for more than 52 years. The organisation provides Meals on Wheels to individuals throughout the year, as well as to the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland respite home in Castlebar, operating 365 days a year.

In addition to its meal delivery service, Castlebar Social Services offers a befriending service and organises a range of social activities, including bingo, music sessions, art programmes and, weather permitting, outings to local beaches and amenities.

Supported by approximately 60 volunteers, the organisation plays a vital role in the community life of Castlebar.

BellaCapella has also expressed its gratitude to local businesses in Castlebar and Foxford for their generous support of the raffle, with many donating prizes. A full list of sponsors will be available on the night and on BellaCapella’s Facebook and Instagram social media pages.

Tickets for A Summer Serenade cost €15 and are available through Eventbrite. A limited number of tickets will also be available at the door on the night.
