Tourism businesses from Co. Mayo are among those taking part in one of the most significant events in the Irish tourism calendar, as Meitheal gets underway in Killarney.
The flagship trade event, organised annually by Fáilte Ireland in partnership with Tourism Ireland, has opened at the Gleneagle Arena, bringing together tourism providers and international buyers from across the globe.
Over two days, more than 11,000 sales meetings are expected to take place between 402 Irish tourism businesses and 267 international buyers and tour operators from 17 countries.
For Mayo tourism operators, the event presents a key opportunity to showcase the county’s attractions — from its Wild Atlantic Way coastline to heritage sites and outdoor experiences — to influential buyers from markets including the USA, Great Britain, Germany, France and Australia.
The annual Meitheal gathering is seen as a vital opportunity for regional destinations like Mayo to strengthen their international presence and attract new visitors in the year ahead. Deals agreed will also help drive visitor numbers to destinations across Ireland, including the West.
With thousands of one-to-one meetings scheduled, industry leaders expect the event to deliver significant economic benefits for tourism businesses nationwide.
