Preparations are well underway for Westport’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations which once again form part of the annual ‘Gathering for Patrick events, which make up a weekend-long celebration that brings the town together each year to mark St Patrick’s weekend in a uniquely Westport way. Community groups, clubs, organisations and local businesses are invited to be part of what promises to be a vibrant and inclusive programme of events across the town.

At the heart of the celebrations is the Westport St Patrick’s Day Parade, taking place on Tuesday, March 17 at 1pm. This year’s parade theme is ‘Reeling in the Years’ and encourages groups to celebrate their history, heritage and achievements, while showcasing the colour, creativity and community spirit that Westport is renowned for. Alongside the parade, the voluntary organising committee is currently busy coordinating a full weekend of events in the lead-up to St Patrick’s Day, designed to bring the town alive for locals and visitors alike.

Weekend events
On Saturday March 14, the popular Duck Race on The Mall will take centre stage offering a fun and family-friendly spectacle at The Mall River. (There are now a limited number of Ducks available to be purchased at €5 each via QR code or in person from Westport Town Hall). The same day will also see a Busking Competition and a Pipers’ Trail, with music and performance animating streets and spaces throughout the town.

On St Patrick’s Day itself, organisers are planning a lively programme of music throughout the day with a dedicated family fun zone in the James Street Car Park from 2pm to 5pm, featuring a range of activities designed to ensure there’s something for all ages to enjoy.

The organising committee is keen to hear from: Community groups or businesses wishing to take part in the parade; Musicians, performers or groups interested in being involved in weekend performances; Individuals or groups willing to assist with stewarding and event support across the weekend. As always, the success of the celebrations relies heavily on community support and organisers are encouraging anyone interested in participating in any capacity to please get in touch.
