The Bank Holiday weekend has been a busy one so far for Mayo Gardaí, with a spate of car seizures for multiple reasons taking place as part of a county-wide crackdown on unsafe and dangerous drivers.

As part of An Garda Síochána's nationwide road safety campaign, local units were out in full force, with a focus on targeting intoxicated driving.

In one instance, a driver was observed driving on the other side of the road, and was found to be over the legal limit and subsequently arrested.

Another was arrested for driving under the influence after being detected for having no insurance.

Elsewhere, in Castlebar, a stop unearthed a quantity of suspected cocaine and cannabis to the value of €8,000. Two arrests were made as a result of the incident.

A number of fixed charge penalty notices were issued for exceeding the speed limit, driving without due care and attention, breaking a red traffic light, driving unaccompanied, having no L or N plates displayed, having no NCT, no tax, and non-conforming number plates.

This Bank Holiday, Gardaí are encouraging road safety, with a particular importance stressed on seatbelt usage, staying off your phone, staying within the speed limit, and ensuring never to drive under the influence of drink and drugs.
