Kylemore Abbey is inviting families to step back in time this mid-term break with a special Samhain celebration running from October 24th to November 2nd across its sprawling 1,000-acre estate in Connemara.
The seasonal programme promises young visitors and their families an immersive journey through Irish tradition and natural heritage. At the heart of the experience lies the estate's beautifully restored 6.5-acre Victorian Walled Garden, where families can discover the secrets of Kylemore's historic trees while exploring the ancient customs of Samhain, the traditional Gaelic harvest festival that marks the transition from autumn to winter.
The Garden's restored buildings provide an atmospheric setting for engaging with centuries-old traditions, whilst the Kylemore Garden Tea House offers a creative retreat. Here, visitors can enjoy autumnal colouring pages and activities while taking in panoramic views of the estate's Connemara Pony herd and the dramatic backdrop of Diamond Hill in Connemara National Park.
Animal encounters feature prominently in the programme, with the Pony Paddock offering visitors the chance to meet Kylemore's resident ponies. A particular highlight promises to be the feeding time for Ken and Perry, the estate's charismatic Kune Kune pigs.
Sunday, October 26th will see the historic grounds host a special traditional crafts day. The Connemara Classic & Vintage Club will showcase classic tractors and vintage cars behind The Kylemore Kitchen Café, while wool spinning demonstrations will take place outside the Victorian Walled Garden, offering visitors a glimpse into Ireland's rich craft heritage.
After exploring the estate, families can refuel at the Kylemore Kitchen Café, which serves hearty lunches throughout the day.
Kylemore Abbey is open daily from 10am to 5pm, with last entry at 4pm. Further information is available at kylemoreabbey.com.
