Mayo County Council welcome announcement of rural development funding in Mayo

The East Mayo town of Swinford is set to receive an allocation of €869,800 as part of the funding.

Mayo County Council are delighted to welcome the announcement of €2,346,700 in funding for three projects in the county under the Rural Regeneration Development Fund (RRDF), by Minister Dara Calleary this morning, Friday, October 10.

The three projects to receive the funding are:

(1) Béal an Mhuirthead 2028 Fís Nua; which has received €663,100 for a proposed project that includes Public Realm Works, the Regeneration of an old Vocational School as a Community Hub and the Development of a new Library.

(2) Swinford Urban Realm; which received €869,800 for the development of a new public square /marketplace. A refurbishment and deep retrofit of a currently derelict and unused former residential (Presbytery) building of the Georgian era into a Community Resource Centre as a focal point of the project.

(3) Inishturk Island Multi-Purpose Hub and Glamping Site which will receive €813,800 for a project, promoted by South West Mayo Development Company, featuring a multi-purpose hub and glamping site, that will enhance Inishturk’s built environment, and generate sustainable employment opportunities.

The funding, under the Rural Regeneration Development Fund (RRDF), is being invested in projects that will rejuvenate town centres, drive economic growth, increase town footfall, combat dereliction, develop pedestrian zones and boost tourism in rural Ireland.

Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Sean Carey said about the funding announcement: “I’m thrilled with today’s announcement of Rural Regeneration funding for Mayo. “These three exceptional projects in Béal an Mhuirthead, Swinford, and Inishturk, will bring real benefits to our communities, enhancing public spaces, restoring heritage buildings, and supporting sustainable development.

“This investment is a strong endorsement of the vision and energy driving rural Mayo forward and into a brighter future. Chief Executive of Mayo County Council, Kevin Kelly added: “I warmly welcome today’s announcement by Minister Dara Calleary of this funding under the Rural Regeneration Development Fund into projects in Mayo.

“This investment in three transformative projects across our county reflect the creativity and ambition of Mayo County Council and the local communities which Mayo County Council is proud to support. “We look forward to working closely with all stakeholders to ensure their successful delivery and long-term impact.
