Mayo County Council’s Road Safety Office will be marking Road Safety Week 2025 which takes place from today Monday, October 6 to Sunday, October 12. This is an annual event and is dedicated to promoting Road Safety Awareness and advocating for safer roads and responsible driving behaviour.

Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr. Seán Carey said: “Road safety remains one of the major priorities for everyone in Mayo County Council. We need to do everything we can to educate and increase awareness about keeping everyone safe on our roads, that goes for everyone including pedestrian, motorists, cyclists and e-scooter users across the county."

Road Safety Officer for Mayo County Council, Frances Mitchell speaking about the importance of the week in getting the road safety message across to everyone in the county added: “Every year Road Safety Week gives the Road Safety Office the chance to reach as many people as possible with our message.

“There has been a welcomed reduction in the number of fatalities in County Mayo to date, however, it is important to note that these numbers are still too high and it is critical that we do not become complacent when it comes to road safety. Road Safety is not just a rulebook, it’s a responsibility we all share.”
