RIP: Dublin native remembered fondly in Mayo community

Christopher (Christy) Flynn, of Hollymount in Mayo and formerly of Kimmage in Dublin

The death took place peacefully at his home in Hollymount last week of Christy Flynn, formerly of 42 Ferns Road, Kimmage, Dublin.

Christy and his family moved from Dublin to Mayo over 20 years ago and settled well into life in the village over the years. He spent some time on a local FAS Scheme in the area, during which time he got to know many of the local people on a first-name basis.

He adapted well into the local community, as did all of his family, and the news of his passing at a relatively young age was received with sadness around the Hollymount area.

Reposing was at St Colman’s Funeral Home, Claremorris, on Tuesday evening (September 23), and interment took place in Roundfort cemetery following the funeral Mass celebrated by Fr Mike Murphy, PP, in Roundfort on Wednesday. A warm rendition of 'Never Alone Glass' was sung as the coffin came down the aisle of the church.

Christy, who was predeceased by his son Christopher and grandson Michael, his brothers John, Liam, Noel, Mick, Jimmy, Stephen and Frank, and his sister Helen, is survived by his wife Barbara, his five daughters, Lisa, Joyce, Linda, Caroline and Sinead, grandchildren Sarah, Niamh, Anthony, Sean, Jack, Sierra, Kady and Erin, sons-in-law Brendan, Sean, Killian and Mick, his brother Joseph, sisters Sadie, Marie, Josephine and Anne, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
