The recently completed small family housing project in Carnacon, which was developed by Mayo County Council, has been shortlisted in the ICSH IPB Community Housing Awards 2025.

Additionally, the development is also competing in the Public Choice Award 2025 section of the competition.

The Carnacon Development has seen the construction of nine family homes, five two-bedroom dormer-style homes, and four three-bedroom dormer-style units clustered around a shared public green on a 0.82-hectare greenfield site, which was provided by the local church.

Existing mature beech trees around the perimeter of the site have been preserved, alongside new native hedgerow planting.

In addition, sustainability site measures include an on-site foul waste bio-treatment and surface water attenuation with natural filtration into the surrounding landscape.

The public can vote for the development at the Community Housing – Public Choice Award 2025 - Irish Council for Social Housing, with voting open until 23.59 on October 13, 2025.
