The incident occurred yesterday evening, with the man airlifted to Mayo University Hospital

Achill coast guard called to assist swimmer in difficulty

The Achill Island Coast Guard volunteers assisted a swimmer in difficulty shortly after 6:00 pm yesterday (Monday, September 22).

The man, who was said to be holidaying in the county, was given CPR by the Coast Guard. He was then airlifted to Mayo University Hospital to receive further treatment.

Achill Island Coast Guard have reiterated that, should you see anyone in difficulty in the sea, cliffs, or shoreline, please dial 112 or 999, or call on VHF Ch 16 and ask for the Coast Guard.
