Man (20s) dies after two-vehicle collision on Mayo-Galway border

The collision took place on the N17 in Drum, between Ballindine and Milltown

An Garda Síochána are appealing for witnesses in the wake of a fatal two-vehicle collision on the Mayo-Galway border this morning (Friday, September 19).

The incident, which took place at approximately 8 am this morning, saw the driver of a car (a male aged in his 20s) pronounced dead at the scene after a collision with a van on the N17 between Ballindine and Milltown.

The van driver, a male aged in his 50s, was airlifted to University Hospital Galway for treatment of serious injury in the wake of the Drum collision.

The N17 is closed between Ballindine and Milltown, pending a technical examination by forensic collision investigators from An Garda Síochána.

Diversions are in place for commuters from the Milltown Road roundabout in Tuam, and from Ballindine. The diversions are taking place via Irishtown and Dunmore.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone that may have witnessed the collision who was travelling the route between 7.45 am and 8.15 am, including those who may be in possession of dash-cam footage, to contact Tuam Garda Station on 093 70840, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
