Swimming notices lifted for four Mayo beaches after water tests

Keem Bay on Achill Island was included alongside Shore Road, Belmullet; Carrowmore Beach, Louisburgh, and Dugort Beach, Achill.

It has been confirmed that the four Mayo beaches placed under a 'Do Not Swim' notice have seen the advisory removed by Mayo County Council.

On Wednesday, August 28, Carrowmore Beach, the Shore Road in Belmullet, and Achill's Dugort Beach were placed under an advisory in the wake of heavy rainfall and a Status Yellow Rainfall Warning the week before.

Two days later, on Friday, August 30, popular beauty spot Keel Beach was added to Wednesday's trio of swimming spots.

Water sampling works indicated that the water did not meet certain criteria, leading samplers to issue the warning.

Since then, frequent sampling has taken place at all four locations, and today (Wednesday, September 3), testers have given the go-ahead for the quartet to welcome back swimmers.
