Kathleen Devine passed away in Sligo University Hospital.
A Mayo woman aged in her 70s who passed away in the wake of an incident where she was attacked by bees at a beehive has been named locally as Kathleen Devine.
The incident, which occurred in Ballycastle on Monday afternoon (September 1), saw the Knockmore resident sustain multiple stings while tending to beehives.
She was transported by the Coast Guard Rescue 118 to Sligo University Hospital, where she subsequently passed away.
Katherine was renowned in North Mayo for her passion for honey-making, and she and her husband Des won multiple prizes for their produce at agricultural shows around the country.
Katherine is fondly remembered by her husband, Des, and her children, Desmond, Brian, and Helen; brothers Gerry, Michael and Peter, sisters Ann, Una and Bernie, daughter-in-law Alina, son-in-law Neil, grandchildren Alana, Fionn, Kilian and Liam, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Her remains will repose at her home in Tonybane, Knockmore (F26 TD39) on Thursday, September 4, from 2pm until 8pm.
Her funeral will take place on Friday, September 5, in the Church of Christ the King in Knockmore at 12 noon followed by burial in Ballinahaglish Cemetery, Knockmore. May she rest in peace.
