ESB Networks to conduct post-storm works in Mayo

The works will take place in the coming months.

In the aftermath of Storm Éowyn, ESB Networks has been undertaking a thorough programme to strengthen the resilience of the electricity network in areas that were worst affected by the storm. A significant part of this work involves identifying and addressing risks posed by forestry, and other timber and vegetation that may potentially impact the electricity infrastructure in advance of future extreme weather events.

ESB Networks would like to inform the public that timber and vegetation surveying and clearing works are scheduled to take place in identified areas over the coming months which include in County Mayo. The work will see the surveying and clearance of high-risk timber and vegetation impacting on our network, on both public and private lands.

ESB Networks and the delivery partners will be working closely with landowners to remove identified risks. These precautionary measures are critical in protecting public safety and ensuring a more stable and reliable electricity supply for customers.

Speaking ahead of the scheduled works, Karen McGeough, Storm Review Manager, ESB Networks said: “Post-storm patrols, conducted by drone and on foot, of the medium voltage network have identified forestry, vegetation and trees, that due to their condition and proximity to power lines, pose potential future risks during significant adverse weather. In collaboration with landowners, we are committed to carrying out necessary removal works with minimal disruption. These proactive measures are essential to safeguarding critical infrastructure and will help to mitigate against future power disruptions for thousands of customers.”

These works will be conducted in the following counties over the coming months, Cavan, Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Longford, Mayo, Monaghan, Roscommon, Sligo and Westmeath.
