A man (aged in his 60’s) was later arrested in connection with the investigation.
The collision, involving a car and a motorcycle, occurred at approximately 4.50pm. The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 50’s was discovered with serious injuries at the scene. He received medical treatment and was conveyed to Mayo University hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
No other injuries were reported at the time. The road was preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. The road has since reopened.
A man (aged in his 60’s) was later arrested in connection with the investigation. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area of Castlebar Road, Newport, Co. Mayo, between 4pm and 5pm on Sunday August 17, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
