Mayo University Hospital recorded a hike in the latest Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation 'Trolley Watch' figures
Mayo University Hospital has seen a significant hike in the number of people waiting on trollies to be seen, according to the latest batch of figures released by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.
On Wednesday, August 7, the Castlebar hospital had only seven patients waiting on beds in the emergency department.
However, since then, the figure has quadrupled, with 28 people awaiting treatment.
Of the figure reported by the INMO, 13 are in the emergency department, while 15 are on trollies elsewhere in the ward.
The total of 15 in the ward elsewhere sees the hospital record the third-highest number of patients nationwide in this category, trailing only Letterkenny University Hospital (20) and University Hospital Limerick (48).
Mayo University Hospital is also ranked number five in the overall number of people waiting to be treated, with Letterkenny University Hospital (34), Cork University Hospital (44), and University Hospital Limerick (48) ahead of the facility.
