Mayo Mountain Rescue were called into action over the course of the weekend, after the family of a camper made a call to rescue a camper on the summit of Croagh Patrick.

At 1am on Saturday, August 9, the team was informed that a man had set off from the foot of Croagh Patrick at 7pm on Friday evening.

At 10 pm, the man made contact with his family, informing them of his plans to camp at the top of the mountain.

However, in light of the deteriorating weather conditions, his family made the decision to sound the alarm to the emergency services after losing contact with him.

Four mountain rescuers set off to scale the mountain, with two making their way from the Murrisk car park and a separate pair heading from Mayo Mountain Rescue’s southern rescue base.

Around 40 minutes after setting off, the crew located the man by the side of Saint Patrick’s channel.

After locating the man, who was ‘very cold and wet’, the crew escorted the man to their southern base, where he was met by his relieved family members.
