Jewellery-making, needle-felting, and clay-creation are some of the events that are taking place this Craft Month
Every August, creative industries unite around Mayo to showcase the best that they have to offer as part of Craft Month, and this year is no different, with plenty of exciting events happening throughout the month.
From workshops to exhibitions, studios to festivals, you’ll find plenty of events across the county and beyond to dip your toes into.
Here, we’ll bring you up to speed with the events happening in this corner of the country.
ZEN CLAY SUNDAY
The Mood Designs, Castlebar (Sunday, August 10 at 12 noon)
The Mood Designs, a pottery store and workshop in the heart of the county town, will be offering a meditative coiling workshop focused on slowing down, reconnecting, and creating with clay.
The workshop will start with meditation, before working in silence with clay to create a flower pot or vase.
The workshop will be slow-paced where you can take time to immerse yourself in the experience. Admission to the event will cost €100.
JEWELLERY-MAKING WORKSHOP
North Mayo Heritage Centre, Castlehill (Saturday, August 9 at 10 am)
This unique, hands-on opportunity offers people the chance to weave stunning crystal chips into a symbolic tree design.
Those who attend will be able to create their own ‘Tree of Life’ pendant, which will add a new dimension to their jewellery collections.
Experience is by no means a necessity, with the event costing €61.
NEEDLE-FELTING WORKSHOP
North Mayo Heritage Centre, Castlehill (Saturday, August 30 at 1.30 pm)
Needle felting, a process where wool fibres are manipulated and sculpted into 3D shapes using needles, is a process which can offer great satisfaction to those who try their hand at the growing craft.
The people from Killala Woolcraft will be on hand to show you the ropes and help you sculpt a myriad of creations, from adorable animals to your own custom creations.
The event will cost €26.
