THE people of the Ballyhaunis parish region turned out in big numbers to celebrate the ruby anniversary of the ordination of Fr Stephen Farragher, PP, to the priesthood. The local Pastoral Council organised a special celebration to mark the occasion.
Fr Stephen, a native of The Neale, Ballinrobe, was delighted with the tremendous support shown by so many people from the Ballyhaunis region and the outpouring of kindness and goodwill on this special occasion.
“It was a most enjoyable occasion and one for which I will be forever grateful. A lot of work and preparation went into organising the liturgy for the Mass and the social event that followed in the Rugby Club.
“I wish to thank the members of the Parish Pastoral Council whose idea it was to mark the jubilee. To the choirs and musicians who provided the music and singing at the Mass, I am truly grateful.

“In particular, I wish to express my thanks to the sub-committee who helped to organise the event: Kevin Henry, Margaret Monaghan, Gabriel Smith, Mary Donnelly, Kay Curley, Tommy Caulfield and Paula Donnellan, parish secretary, who co-ordinated the preparations.
“Thanks to the Rugby Club for the venue, Collette Jennings of Centra/Supervalu who prepared the food, parishioners who donated desserts, and to Breege Kenny and Irene Nunes for their beautifully-crafted cakes.
“To the PPC, Scoil Íosa and BCS Boards of Management for their presentations and gifts, I say a sincere thanks. Finally, to the many people who bought tickets for the event, sent cards (most of which I have yet to open) and gifts, I am most grateful. Míle buíochas agus ráth Dé oraibh agus bhur teaghlaigh,” said Fr Stephen on conveying his gratitude to the many people who made this a truly special occasion to remember.
