Keem Beach, one of Ireland’s most picturesque coastal gems, has been named one of the best beaches in the world, placing 18th on the prestigious Big 7 Travel global ranking for 2025.

Now in its seventh year, the annual list highlights the planet’s most stunning shorelines, drawing on past media recognition, Blue Flag beach status, social media popularity, and insights from the Big 7 Travel editorial team. This year's edition celebrates a variety of beach experiences, from exotic island getaways to beloved local favorites.

Nestled along the lush, rugged coastline of County Mayo on Achill Island, Keem Beach is known for its sweeping horseshoe-shaped bay, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and dramatic green cliffs. The beach, which holds official Blue Flag status, is celebrated not only for its scenic beauty but also for its clean waters and thriving marine biodiversity.

"Keem Beach offers a serene, secluded retreat that stands out for its natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere," the Big 7 Travel team wrote. “Its curved shape helps shield visitors from the wind, and its calm waters make it ideal for swimming and spotting marine life.”

The beach is also steeped in history—Keem Bay was once home to a seasonal basking shark fishery, and the gentle giants can still be seen offshore during certain times of the year, thrilling visitors with a glimpse of one of the ocean's most majestic creatures.

Ireland’s appearance on a list that includes global hotspots like Whitehaven Beach in Australia, Anse Source d’Argent in the Seychelles, and Ksamil Beach in Albania underscores the country's growing reputation as a world-class coastal destination.

As one of only a few European entries on the list, Keem Beach stands out for its raw, unspoiled charm and offers a unique alternative to the more tropical paradises featured in the top 20.

For travelers seeking tranquility, breathtaking scenery, and a touch of adventure, Keem Beach remains one of Ireland’s most treasured hidden gems. For the full list of the best 50 beaches in the world, see here.
