Nine local Mayo organisations to receive major government funding

Nine Mayo clubs and organisations are set to receive a major influx of funds as part of the latest series of Community Recognition Funding allocations.

In total, €688,539 will be split between the nine groups in the county as part of a €17 million nationwide investment in over 200 projects around the country.

Castlebar skate park received the largest percentage of the Mayo funds, with €189,033 being allocated.

A total of €112,918 has been allocated to Moy Davitts GAA club for the development of a boundary wall, footpath, and parking.

Upgrades to the Mulranny/Tiernaur Amenity Centre have been allocated €63,338, while €63,250 has been allocated to enhancement works to the Princess Grace Park in Newport.

The Murrisk Cemetery enhancement works have been awarded €60,000.

The replacement of the Ballina Arts Centre heating system, refurbishment of an astroturf pitch in Ballycastle, enhancement to the Castlebar Market Square, and upgrades to roundabouts in Westport have all been given €50,000 each.

Minister for Rural and Community Development, Dara Calleary, spoke of his delight at the allocation of funds to the county.

“I am delighted to confirm this substantial investment in Mayo communities, both urban and rural. I am really pleased that, working with them and the local authority, including local representatives, we have been able to allocate funding at this level,” the Minister said.

“It will make a huge difference to each of the nine unique projects, and I am delighted to have been able to support them.”
