Sharon Shannon, who will open the Colaiste Acla Summer School
Renowned musician Sharon Shannon has been revealed as the opener for the Scoil Acla Summer School in Mayo in 2025.
The iconic musician and singer, who was also a member of The Waterboys, has been selected to open the Summer School on Sunday, July 27.

The school, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, has long been held in high regard as a staple of traditional music in the West.
This year, another iconic staple of the scene, Sharon, who has captivated crowds both in Ireland and further afield, will take to the stage at the Achill Island Hotel.
The Chair of Scoil Acla CCÉ, Sarah Calvey, welcomed the news that the iconic Clare Native would be bringing her magic to West Mayo.
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Sharon Shannon and her band to Achill as the official opener for Scoil Acla 2025,” she stated. “Sharon is not only one of Ireland’s most gifted and innovative musicians but also a wonderful ambassador for traditional music.
“Her presence continues a proud tradition at Scoil Acla of hosting the finest artists and cultural figures. She joins an illustrious group of musicians, performers, and dignitaries who have helped mark key moments in our summer school’s history.”
