Legal cannabis used by Mayo teens to be banned 'within weeks'

The Minister for Health will change the current regulations to classify HHC as a Schedule 1 drug 'subject to the strictest levels of control'

Following on from The Mayo News report last week on legal cannabis being widely used by Mayo teens, the Minister for Health has confirmed that HHC will be banned “within weeks.”

Mayo TD, Paul Lawless, put in a parliamentary question to the Minister requesting when legislation will classify hexahydrocannabinol, HHC, as a schedule 1 controlled drug under the misuse of drugs legislative framework?

The Minister responded by confirming the current regulations will be amended to include HHC as schedule 1 controlled drug “within weeks.”

Controlled drugs in Schedule 1 have the most restrictions on them because of their strong potential for abuse and little, if any, value in medicine.

Drugs currently classified as Schedule 1 include raw opium, benzodiozol and cannabis resin.
