This year, the Council has received a €500,000 increase on the 2024 figures, enabling many more people in need to make the required adjustments.
The funding is vital to many, with the maximum level of funding available to those with disabilities €40,000. The maximum funding for older people is €10,700, and the cap on the Mobility Grant Scheme is €8,000.
Speaking following the news, Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary was quick to stress the importance of the Scheme to those who require it.
“The Housing Adaptation Grant Scheme is a lifeline for many families and individuals,” he stated. “The ESRI projections indicate that the numbers of people aged over 65 will more than double to 1.3 million people by 2040.
“As more people live longer lives, they will want to stay healthy and independent, live in their own homes and communities, and keep to a minimum their use of inpatient and outpatient hospital services.”
