Mindspace Mayo has welcomed the findings of a commissioned report on their services from academic minds at the University of Galway.

The assessment from Doctor Caroline Heary and Professor Gary Donohue was launched at the mental health organisation’s event celebrating their ten-year anniversary.

The report displayed that the group has contributed to clinically significant reductions in emotional distress symptoms, as well as their role in reducing stigma surrounding mental health issues.

According to Professor Donohue, Mindspace is highly reviewed by many who pass through its doors.

“We found robust evidence of positive outcomes for those attending,” he stated, “with experience of clinical distress reducing from nearly two-thirds at initial assessment to approximately 1 in 5 after receiving support.”

Evidence-based research revealed that 75 per cent of mental health issues appear before people reach 25 years of age. Mindspace Mayo provides free early intervention services to those between the ages of 12 and 25.

The group’s Project Manager, Peadar Gardiner, welcomed the findings of the report into their services.

“The evaluation highlighted key areas where Mindspace Mayo has made a tangible difference, including early intervention, accessibility, and the effectiveness of a youth-centred approach,” he stated.

“We are encouraged by the positive feedback and will continue to enhance our services to meet the needs of those who rely on us.”

Mindspace Mayo opens from Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm and on Fridays from 9 am to 3 pm. Outreach appointments are available from Monday to Wednesday in Ballina and on Tuesdays in Belmullet.

Young people or their parents seeking support are encouraged to contact Mindspace by calling 094 906700 or by filling out the appointment form, which is available here.
