ONE of Mayo’s most popular woodland walks is closed to the public on account of damage caused by Storm Éowyn.

Moorehall Woods, home to the historic Moorehall House, has been closed to the public since March 13 to facilitate the removal of wind-damaged trees.

“Mayo County Council prioritised essential works up to this point and our recreational facilities will be operational in the near future,” read a statement from Mayo County Council.

Situated by the shores of Lough Carra Moorehall House and the surrounding lands were acquired by Mayo County Council in 2018.

The site has since been developed with new signage and woodland walks which attract large numbers of visitors annually.
