Clare Island, pictured in the background, has experienced difficulties with its water supply in recent years
Clare Island’s water supply will receive a significant upgrade in the coming weeks.
Uisce Éireann have said the investment will improve the quality of drinking water on the island and reduce the risk of boil water notices.
The Clew Bay island has experienced issues with its water supply on a number of occasions in recent years, with many resulting in boil water notices.
Uisce Éireann’s project manager Michael McHugh said the planned upgrades will include the installation of new UV and granular activated carbon (GAC) secondary filtration unit system.
Investigative works were carried out on the island earlier this year, with the project expected to get underway before the summer.
“Depending on weather conditions, we hope to begin works before summer. This project is a significant investment for the region and will help ensure a safe and reliable water supply for islanders and visitors to the island,” Mr McHugh said.
Uisce Éireann thanked the islanders for their support while they continue to seek out and repair the leaks.
Their customer care helpline, which is open 24/7, can be contacted on 1800 278 278.
