Good news as busy Mayo road finally reopens

Those experiencing frustration at the closure of Lower Charles St in Castlebar have received welcome news this week, as Mayo County Council announced that the road has reopened.

Two people were injured in an explosion at an Indian restaurant on the street, causing major disruption to the county town.

The road was closed for three weeks following the January 26 explosion, which injured two people and caused serious damage to the building that has stood since 1863.

The road was due to re-open last Wednesday, however due to an issue with the supply of a specialist propping material to support the restaurant’s front facade, the closure was extended.

That closure came to an end this morning(Monday), as the Council announced that the road had reopened to traffic.
