Two trains collide at Mayo train station

The incident occured at Westport Train Station.

Irish Rail has confirmed that two trains have collided at Westport Train Station.

In the incident, which occurred on Monday evening, a freight train that was loaded with timber crashed into a passenger train, which wasn't in use at the time of the event.

No one was injured in the collision.  However, the passenger train carriage was left with significant damage.

An internal investigation has since been launched by Irish Rail, as they confirmed in a statement given to Midwest Radio.

The train, which has six carriages, has been removed to Portlaoise, where the damaged section of the train is being examined before the group commences repairs.
