Mayo County Council, in collaboration with HeritACT Ballina, are looking for contributors in a seven-day creative writing workshop in which they aim to tell the story of the town’s cultural heritage.
The workshops, which get underway on Saturday 15 in the town’s library and run over the course of five weeks, aim to involve members of the community of Ballina from past and present.

By the end of the workshops, those in HeritACT aim to have created work that will accurately demonstrate the life and times of the people of Ballina throughout history, from it’s establishment in 1723 right up until the present day.
The workshops will be spearheaded by playwright, writer and songwriter Fiona Keane, who previously lead the Mayo Youth Theatre in the town.
HeritACT is an initiative aimed at rejuvenating culturally significant sites in communities through participatory processes such as the workshop.
Notable places included by HeritACT include the SS Creteboom and Kathleen Lynn Square. The project is also piloting in Greek town Elefsina and Milan, Italy.
