New speed limits have come into effect this morning(Friday) on roads in Mayo.
The rules, which came into law at midnight, mean that all local rural roads have reduced in speed from 80km/h to 60km/h.

The change is the first stage of a major government strategy, which aims to half all deaths and major injuries on Irish roads within the next five years.
The new rules only affect rural local roads, meaning urban local roads, Regional(R) roads and National(N) roads will see no changes.
Chief Superintendent of the Garda National Roads Policing Bureau, Jane Humphries, has urged that road users pay heed to these new regulations.
"All that we are asking people to do is to take less than a minute longer for their journey to make the road safer for everyone," she said.
The next phase of the plan is a reduction of speed in urban areas from 50km/h to 30km/h, and a reduction on national secondary roads from 100km/h to 80 km/h.
