A rallying call has been made by those behind Newport’s Saint Patrick’s Day parade in a bid to save the cherished tradition.
Every year, parades throughout Mayo are held on the national holiday. However, there’s a risk that the parade will be lost in the village on the banks of Clew Bay.
The concerned organisers are calling for an intervention to revive the parade.
Tonight(Thursday), a meeting will be held in Walsh’s Bridge Inn in the village at 8pm, with locals encouraged to attend.
The committee is looking for an injection of new blood, as well as for local businesses getting on board to create a vibrant sense of occasion on the day.
