UPDATE: Major damage reported in Mayo after Storm Éowyn

The red wind warning has passed, but now the full scope of the damage caused by storm Éowyn becomes clearer.

The probably biggest casualty has been the Air Dome in Bekan. The multi-million Euro Connacht GAA facilty has been completely destroyed, ripped to pieces.

The stand of McGovern Park in Newport, home to Burrishoole GAA, saw its roof collapsed by the storm.

There have been reports of fallen trees blocking the road, for example in Ballinrobe.

Thousands of households are without power with no indication as to when it will be restored.

Phone coverage is down or patchy. People are having trouble reaching out to family or friends via phone.

Slowly traffic resumes on the roads but drivers should be cautious and drive very carefully.

While the Red Warning has passed - the public are reminded that an Orange Warning is still in place and they are urged to not make any unnecessary journeys.

The Mayo County Council says: "Our crews will be assessing the damage, but this process may take some time to complete
