An iDonate page has been launched for Cathal Canavan from Coilmore, Claremorris, who was seriously injured in a fall in Sydney
A fund has been set up for a young Claremorris man who received serious injuries in a fall in Sydney on Christmas Day. Cathal Canavan from Coilmore, Claremorris, is currently receiving specialised treatment in ICU at a Sydney hospital.
A statement issued by the group at the weekend said: “Cathal recently experienced a life-threatening fall and is receiving treatment in the ICU in Sydney. Although a challenging and long road lies ahead, we are hopeful for his full recovery.
“As those who know him well would tell you, Cathal is an extremely kind-hearted individual. Fiercely loyal, he protects those close to him, and you know that he is always in your corner whenever you need. He is hard-working in his trade as a plumber and his mischievous laugh and smile are infectious.
“The funds raised from this page will go towards Cathal's medical care, rehabilitation and will also support his parents Shane and Josie (nee Kelly) and his brother, Kieran, to ensure that they can stay close by his side in Sydney.
“Every donation, no matter how small, is extremely appreciated. We understand that not everyone is in the position to donate so even by sharing this with others to help spread the word would mean a lot. We are extremely grateful for your kindness during this difficult time.”
Claremorris GAA has also lent support to the appeal: “Cathal played underage football up until minor level with Claremorris GAA club and our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.” Cathal is a first cousin of Laura Kelly who captained the Claremorris team that reached the Ladies All-Ireland Junior Final last year.
Eastern Gaels Club has also called for support for Cathal: “The club would like to extend our thoughts and support to Cathal Canavan, son of Josie and Shane Canavan, and nephew and cousin of Chris Kelly and Mikey Kelly, following a life-threatening fall he suffered on Christmas Day while in Australia.”
