There is a "unique" event coming to Newport in Co. Mayo on Saturday January 25 at the Burrishoole Community Centre.

The event runs from 12 noon to 3pm and is open to all people in the community and the wider surrounding areas.

The community centre has said on Facebook, "property marking is a process where a physical mark is etched onto property, such as a bike, laptop or tools."

"The mark is made by specifically designed machine that embosses the property with small dots in the pattern of the owner's Eircode," according to the Facebook post.

"This makes it harder for criminals to sell stolen property. Don't forget your Eircode!," the post added.
