Face masks are compulsory in hospital emergency departments in the north and west amid an ongoing spread of flu
MASK-wearing is now mandatory in emergency departments in all hospitals across the west and north-west as the flu continues to put health services under pressure.
The HSE has asked the public to cooperate with visiting restrictions and infection control measures as 166 patients are being treated across the north and west region today.
“In all other areas of the hospital and across all residential facilities we are urging visitors to please wear a face mask to protect themselves and our patients and staff from the risk of infection. Please be vigilant and wash your hands and use hand gel regularly,” a HSE spokesperson said.
Trolley numbers continue to remain high in Mayo University Hospital today (January 2, 2024), where 18 people are on currently hospital trolleys.
The HSE has urged all those eligible to get vaccinated against the flu and Covid-19 as soon as possible. The public have also been asked to consider using their pharmacies and out-of-hours GP services for non-life-threatening conditions.
