Mayo TD Paul Lawless hits out at RSA price hikes

Aontú TD Paul Lawless has called on the government to reduce price increases on NCTs and drivers licenses

NEWLY-elected Mayo TD, Paul Lawless, has criticised the RSA for raising the price of an NCT and drivers licenses.

The Aontú TD was reacting to the decision by the RSA to raise the price of a driving license from €55 to €65, a learner permit from €35 to €45 and a full NCT from €55 to €60.

The RSA said the fee adjustments were due to a planned €18 million expenditure on ‘public interest activities and government priorities’.

The price changes will come into effect from 1 January 2025. They will be the first RSA price hikes since 2012.

Deputy Lawless accused the Government of ‘double-speak’ on dealing with the cost of living and called on the government to overrule the RSA’s decision.

“This Government have long tried to tell the public that public transport would negate their need to use cars for work and leisure, yet many areas across the country have no reliable public transport services. Now, when using the car is the only option for taking children to and from school or commuting to work, there is a further cost burden – that is unacceptable,” said Deputy Lawless.
